Are you wondering where to find PD hours for your Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner certification? I’m right there with you: I’m currently working on my own recertification and found it surprisingly tricky to track down reliable, up-to-date information. That’s why I put this post together: to save you time and help you feel confident about where to look. I’ll be updating this page regularly as new professional development options become available, so be sure to bookmark it or check back soon!
How to find free or reasonably priced options to renew your Wilson Dyslexia Practitioner certification
Let’s start with the options from Wilson Language Training.
First, I suggest that you work on this task from a computer, rather than your phone. You’ll be adding professional learning courses to your Wilson Academy account. It is much easier to do on a computer than on a mobile device! Before you begin, make sure you know which email address you use to log in to Wilson Academy.
Head to Wilson’s Professional Learning page and scroll down to Free and low-cost opportunities to earn Wilson® Professional Learning Credits. There are dozens of opportunities listed, but I suggest starting with the ones offered by Wilson Language Training. Click on “register” and you’ll be prompted to submit an access code. Enter the email address you use for Wilson Academy, and the training will be added to your account.
Now, the training will appear under My Professional Learning when you log in to Wilson Academy. Launch the course and you’re on your way to earning those credits!
These trainings are very similar to the courses you completed for your initial certification, so you’ll likely navigate them with ease. You do need to pass an assessment at the end, so make sure you’re focused and take notes, if necessary. When you complete each training, you’ll receive a printable Acknowledgement of Completion, and the credits will automatically be added to your Wilson Academy account.
Already completed all the training options from Wilson Language Training?
There are also numerous options offered by other “recognized providers” listed on the Professional Learning page. Unfortunately, not all of the information is current, and many of the trainings occurred in the past. It may be helpful to look for upcoming events on the websites of Wilson’s recognized providers, listed below. However, it is up to you to make sure the training will offer a certificate of attendance/completion and that it will be approved by Wilson. Save your certificates in a safe place because you will need to upload a copy to Wilson Academy to receive credit.
As of May 2025, the following providers are listed as recognized providers on Wilson’s Professional Learning page:
- ALTA
- Acadience Learning
- Decoding Dyslexia
- Dyslexia Society of Connecticut
- Embrace Dyslexia at Home
- Everyone Reading (New York and Illinois)
- International Dyslexia Association and its branches
- Learning Ally
- AOGPE
- The Dyslexia Foundation
- IMSLEC
- The Reading League
Professional Learning Recommendations
Learning Ally presents the Spotlight on Dyslexia Virtual Conference every year in June. I attended a few years ago and took so many notes that I started a Google Doc to keep myself organized! I’ll be attending the 2025 conference, and I’m truly looking forward to it. This two-day conference typically costs just under $100. It’s a safe bet for renewing your credentials because the website linked above states: Wilson Reading System® Certified Educators may use the certificate of attendance for this Spotlight on Dyslexia virtual conference toward the renewal of their Wilson® Dyslexia Practitioner (W.D.P.) and Wilson® Dyslexia Therapist (W.D.T.) credentials.
I will also attend the 2025 WRS Certified Teacher Conference in Boston this summer. While it’s not considered by most to be an affordable option, it does look like a great opportunity to learn and network. I will update this post to let you know how it went and how many credits I earned.
